Longer than a month is unnecessary, and complicates things. Body sizes can change, and ideas can change. 2 to 3 weeks is an ideal time to start considering the direction you want to take.

Fantasy – anything goes!

Feathers!
Feather boas, or feathered headpiece, like an Indian head dress, or an Indian squaw, feathered arm bands, or feathered wings.

You wear white feathered wings, with a white fur vest, white gloves, pearls, white petticoat, and be an angel.

You could wear black feathered wings and funky leather gear and be a funky feathered fetishest with black fishnets.

Fetish – you could go dominatrix style black leather, red leather, black bob, pointy shoes, add a bit of fur or feathers for extra factor “F”
Red tight jeans, black boots, black bob, fire engine red lipstick and false eyelashes. Red feather boa, red white and black beads, black leather jacket.

Flasher! – ladies:wear a trenchcoat with hotpants and sparkly bikini underneath, hair in a ponytail, sandshoes without socks, or fluro anklet socks.
Men: boxer shorts and tie, slick hair down to one side with brill cream or gel
no socks and sand shoes, or socks with office leather shoes.

Freak – you could wear black, like a freaky witch or Addams family type freak with white face and dark eyes, and spiky dark hair, white and black stripy socks.

French- black and white striped wide necked top with beret, black tights and short skirt, or black pants. You could also paint your face like Marcel Marceau, and wear red braces with white gloves.

Funky – how about some groovey 70’s pimpin’ type dude with afro and chains.
Groovey African style cool muma in Blaxploitation style 60’ and 70’s Afro American.

Fur- furry legwarmers, scarves, hats, vests. Glamour fur coat and evening gown.

Fruit- go as colourfuly and outrageously attired as you can, as the street fruits of Japan! Kooky!
Or, wear a fruit head piece like Carmen Miranda, or dress as some kind of goddess of abundance, with a wreath of fruit crowning your hair.

One simple black dress can be worn several times to various themed parties, and all you need change are the accessories…

Ancient Rome: Long curled wig, with jewels in hair, a large silk scarf tied over the shoulder with jewelled buckle, golden braid criss crossed over the body of the dress. Metal bangles, maybe a snake curled around your forearm, rings.

1920′s: short wig, feather boa, or fur stole. headband with jewelled broach, long gloves, long beads tied around the neck, fish net tights, or tights with the long black seam down the centre back, pointy character shoes, with delicate buckle at the ankle.

1970′s: long beads, scarf tied around the head, big sunglasses, chunky bangles, peace sign painted on the cheek, knee high boots.

Lions and tigers prowl, monkeys jibber, colourful birds screech, chasing the last of the suns rays to speckled pin pricked light though the velvet curtain of night.

So you want to look like an Islander?

Balmy nights by the soothing flow of the waves washing on a golden shore, sparkling in the moonlight.

Sassy Island wahines, and wise island Mumas, who have seen it all.

Young Warrior Men, with real grass armbands, and tribal tattoos, glistening with pure, clean freshly pressed coconut oil – fragranced with frangipani, ginger, or the tiare flower.

Island Chiefs, commanders of all they survey. The rules can be tough sometimes, in paradise, but everybody’s smiling.

Grass skirts and coconut bras are not the only way to experience Island flavour.

Fashionably tied sarongs, a hibiscus flower behind the ear, a shell bracelet may equally connote relaxed tropical paradise. Wear you hair out, and when you move, sway like the ocean, with grace, and poise.

Men too, may wear a sarong, tied short, with bare upper body.

For those a little less daring, try wearing cut off jeans, with your basic Hawaiian shirt, the more garish, the better!
